Siebenbürgen – Gästehäuser und Wanderwege in der Kirchenburgenlandschaft
["Transylvania: Guest Houses and Hiking Trails in the Fortress Landscape"] is the first travel guide to present a comprehensive network of hiking trails linking the fortified churches of Transylvania in all their rich diversity.
The travel guide was developed in close cooperation between KirchenBurgenSchutzVerein Siebenbürgen ["Society for the Protection of the Transylvanian Fortified Churches"], the Advent Zachäus Parish of Berlin, Mediaş/Mediasch Stephan Ludwig Roth Elméleti Liceum, the Evangelical Parish of Mediaş/Mediasch, and BTE Tourismusmanagement/Regionalentwicklung ["BTE Tourism Management/Regional Development"]. This project was funded by Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) [German Federal Foundation for the Environment] and Siebenbürgisch-Sächsische Stiftung [Transylvanian Saxon Foundation].
In 180 pages, the reader is presented with detailed descriptions of 62 communities and (fortified) churches, 59 accommodations, and 53 hiking trails.
The book is intended as a contribution to nature and culture-oriented tourism development and the long-term preservation of the fortified churches as monuments of international cultural heritage.
